The “Allow And Let Go” Process

One of our readers posted a great question in response to my Law of Attraction Report. After reading her question and re-reading it again, I realized that this is such an important point and so I’m making this post a response to her question so that everyone gets the benefit.
Here’s what Claire originally wrote…
I have read your report and I must say, I have practiced some of the things you’ve said and it has worked, but to get the ‘bigger’ things there are still some things I am uncertain about, for example, Im a very anxious person and even though I do practice feeling good and having good thoughts, I would like to know, once you’ve established to the universe what it is you want, what happens next? Do you continue with everyday things and not think about it? Or do you think about it and feel good? There are alot of things on my plate at the moment. I had a very bad year and I want to live the life I always dreamed would be impossible. Relationship, Travel, Debt and that dream Career. I have manifested something before but Im not sure how I did it. When I at least expected, it happened!! So does one have ask, allow and then forget and carry on? Im a bit confused with the ‘allow and let go ‘ process.
So let’s dig in!
What to do after confirming your desire. First of all, you should take notice of your feelings that you receive when you think about your desire. If the desire is for more money, then you may find that when you think about more money, your thoughts immediately switch to not having money and so you feel bad.
If this is the case, then thinking about your desire over and over again is not the right thing for you to do! Maintaining positive, feel good vibrations is what your work is.
On the other hand, if thinking about your desire makes you feel excited and elated, then it is a wonderful thing to think about! Those good feeling vibrations are bringing you closer and closer to your desire. It is worth noting though… you do not HAVE to think about your desire for it to manifest. Thinking about your desire is only helpful if thinking about it makes you feel great!
I recommend that you take all of this a little easier and don’t force yourself to think about your desire every chance you get. By doing that, you may be sending a vibration of “I really want my desire, so I’m going to think about it as much as possible!”. This vibration could hinder your manifestation. Instead, relax about it. Know that what you want is on its way and take the good feelings you get from thinking about your desire whenever you naturally happen to think about it.
If you meditate every day, you may like to use those meditation sessions as the time and space when you think and feel your desire. It’s not necessary to think about your desire every day, but if it feels good to you and you enjoy doing it - then do it!
Great things happen when you least expect it. Quite often, manifestations will occur when you’ve not been thinking about the desire for some time. This is because you are releasing the resistance you had that was keeping you away from having it. When you stop practicing thoughts that hold you away from your desire, the desire can then manifest.
The ONLY thing that keeps you from having what you want is thoughts and vibrations that are opposite to what you want. It is that continued attention.
Your work is to release and let go. Lighten up. Don’t take this so seriously. Think about your desire if it feels good to do so. Change your thinking so that you don’t continue to give power and attention to what you don’t want. Live a life worth living.

Wow! That was an excellent question and an excellent answer as well!
Whenever I get myself to feel really good about some intent, I keep visualizing it and vibrating high as soon as possible. And when I do that, things manifest AMAZINGLY quickly and perfectly. The Universe just finds the weirdest ways to bring me what I want.
But very often, I can’t get to feel good about something I want (money is a good example) so I focus on something different that makes me feel good and will indirectly imply getting what I want. In the example of the money: whenever I think of a huge savings account, my self-limiting beliefs appear immediately and I feel bad: either guilty, or just unable to believe it. But, if I focus on living in a wonderful sunny flat, working maximum 6 hours a day, getting a new acoustic drumset and taking wonderful vacations every year, then the thing is easier. And, of course, if I have access to all above without having a huge savings account, that’s ok too!
I’ve been doing this “change of focus” naturally, because I found it worked. But thanks to this question now, I’ll do it consciously and knowing why.

hello, I must say that I really liked the way you explained the part of leeting go …this is a fact that may seem difficult for most of us … I may say that also for me…but I am still practicing and I hope that it will finally work:)….as long as you feel happy about the thing that you want without feeling not having it…I believe that the universe is conspiring for u to have it!!

That’s right it seems that the process of feeling good and stay positive (even watch out for the language we use everyday) smooths the way for good things to come. 2008 was a great year for me due to the law of attraction, and hopefully 2009 will be better. Good vibrations to everyone and specially to you Gary.
dear Gary ,Allow and speak it will be!Before christmas I was making up my bed with fresh warm green sheets,My cat, KitTen was with me.She likes to supervise.I said to her ”gee wouldn’t it be great if I had pink sheets like this?”So the intention is out there.My friend comes to the door with,a present for her. Kitten gets a tunnel And I with no expectations of anything ,get Pink sheets.Warm lovely pink sheets !The green ones have found anew home at the mission .So as we speak it, let it go, relax and Feel the good in what we already have,More good will come,Sometime what we want has to come from upstream .And Thank you Gary for the Abundance and Joy you’ve helped bring into our lives.Best Wishes Gail

I am most successful in creating what I want when I can relax into it and focus on something positive about it. When things don’t happen as quickly as I think they should, usually I find that I am giving off a contradictory vibration, for example, when I wanted to be paid a certain amount, in my job but underneath it all, did not believe that any one would pay me this. Once I could recognize my negative energy, I could focus on the positive aspects of receiving this money. Eventually, the great salary found me!

This article is great. My problem is I think all the time and need to give it a rest. What I am trying to do is think less, but I was worried if I did not think about it enough it would not manifest all, I think. So, I am going to give up thinking for Lent, visualize, do the action work and so on…………………….

Just want to ask you something… if we have debt and have desire to have a lot of money to pay the debt… meantime we feel so stressful because debt collector keeps calling… how to maintain this situation to feel good all the time? can you share your thoughts?

Hi Gary! Thanks for ur blog. Pl clear a point for me: What we focus on, grows. Right? So, after intending or requesting the Universe specifically for what I choose, if I do not think of the wish but become immersed in something else that makes me happy, how is my original wish going to manifest–considering I am not thinking of it at all? Esp. in the case of intangible wishes? How is one to know how one would feel when the wish manifests; if it is going to be a completely new experience? eg. going for a cruise for a person who has never ever been on water or in a boat? Ya, I think you are right. There is no secret in law of attraction. We just need to understand where our vibrations are moving.

Here is what I do: I think the main thought of what I want as a whole picture. I see every detail that I can. I don’t think about it very long but I get REALLY excited about it. Then I ask for it, believe that I deserve it and know that it is on it’s way. Then after I let the big picture go, I start getting excited about the little details about my big picture and I think about a different small detail every day.
For example: I want to open another business in 2-3 years. I thought about the big picture, got excited about it, and let it go. And now for a little while every day (5 minutes or so) I think about the details of that business; The window treatments, the shelves, the smell, the layout, the floors…any little detail that I can imagine. I think about 1 or 2 of those per day. I haven’t run out of fun details to think about yet!! It is a really fun thing to do!! I try to use all of my senses. I touch the fabric, I see the desk, I hear the people chattering about this and that, I taste and smell the coffee, things of that sort.

I agree very much with your general view that positive thinking is important, but surely this is an overstatement. There are all kinds of factors in life that affect our well being in addition to what goes on between our ears.
As one of any number of examples, if life were that simple, the Palestinian people, say, or the five million Iraqi refugees the US created, or the poor in Africa, could just think happy thoughts and all would be well. But clearly there are large geopolitical factors affecting these people’s lives.
Another obvious factor is heredity. I knew a ten year old boy who died of a rare disease. He sure didn’t look like he was thinking any less postively than other children his age.
If we go from realizing that our thoughts matter to supposing they’re ALL that matter, we end up blaming victims right and left, adding to their suffering, and subtracting from our compassion.
What a fantastic post! It is so exciting to see more and more people tuning into their beliefs and desires and discovering how they too can change their realities through the power of positive thought!

I absolutely use the law of attraction everyday to attract beautiful people to my business. I write a list of the qualities in a person that I am looking for and I write a list of ways in which they will benefit from starting in my business. Every morning I write the list, say thank you to the universe for delivering these wonderful people to me and then I get on with my day. And guess what? It works beautifully!!!
I remember an event in Seattle where I gave a tip in manifesting what you want : “ride the waves” it is easy to answer and recieve opportunities if we are just cool and not so uptight.

I just downloaded that report cause this article made me interested in your reasoning.
I have been feeling good about things and not getting stressed (too often!) for about 3 weeks continuouslky now. And while a lot of great desires have happened, some of them are still stubbornly staying away. they are very small things which wouldnt make a great deal of difference to my life. A certain type of fabric for example. I manifested one ype but not the other. What is going on here?

-Very true, as is the advice to relax..signifying that the way to get what you want is to feel good right now.
One method is to start changing your vibration through your activities. Choose what you love and is withing your ability. If skiing is going to catapult your emotions high to that frequency which matches what you want- then, great..but, if skiing is not available to you, try small activities which you bring you joy as well. Dancing, relaxing- basically choose whatever can match that frequency…something YOU enjoy and can fit in your schedule.
*On a side note, though -like attracts like is still holding in her case..she seems to think it’s not working in for the “big dream.”
When she feels good she attracts the little dreams which, also, fel very good to her. Yet, she can’t match up with the uncomfortable dreams while feeling good..there’s a mismatch there.
It seems like the manifestor cannot use the law of attraction to get dreams if she has angst about the “dream/ goal” itself (I believe you mentioned this, too). I recently had this problem..I solved it for myself and am feeling a lot better about my goal which is opening new doors..
My advice is to look at what your goal is and make sure you feel good about it. What in particular about the dream is scaring you?
Once, you know..start coaxing your thoughts to change your feelings.
Override your fears by making clear intentions about what you do and don’t want to come along with your dream when it happens. Repeat this goal in it’s most positive light and voila you have a dream you feel good about.
Like attracts like will be operating as it should be once you feel good about where you are and where you’re going. Seems like she needs to change how she feels about the goal, which is possible with a little thought coaxing.
And, if it doesn’t work, she probably really does not want this thing to happen- perhaps, it’s some tiny aspect of the dream which really is her heart’s desire.
Thinking clearly about what it is she wants and making intentions to get only that..this should satisfy that problems as well since it will cancel out everything about the dream that is bothering her.
She’ll be left with a new refined and more accurate goal if this one doesn’t suit her.
