My Subconscious Addiction

19th May 2008

Have you ever played an addictive game like Tetris or Solitare and found that when you close your eyes you are still playing the game in your mind?

Isn’t it funny how when you open your eyes, you have no knowledge that you’re still thinking about it, but the moment you close your eyes you’re seeing the images as if you’re still playing.

These images that are playing over and over again like a broken record player are the images that are in your subconscious mind.

Whatever you feed your conscious mind over and over again and then mix emotion with the thought, will be sent to the subconscious mind. According to Napoleon Hill, it is part of the subconscious mind that is talking to the universe which determines ultimately what you will attract using the Law of Attraction.

Personally, I’ve seen the correlation between what I think over and over again and what I get back from the universe. I’ve also seen that when I feel good about anything at all, I manifest joyous things.

When I was setting up my Law of Attraction membership site, Positivity Space, it took me about 1 full month of work getting the site setup and working how I wanted it to. I found myself spending between 6 – 12 hours every single day working on the site. It was my primary focus and it was incredibly enjoyable for me.

In this building stage, I began to notice that when I finally finished for the day and closed my eyes, the same phenomena would occur like when playing an addictive game…

I started to see the site in my minds eye. The idea of the site had been sent to my subconscious mind!

Every time I would close my eyes to go to sleep, I would see the site and new features being added just like I had been doing in the days work. As well as seeing the things I had already done to the site, new ideas and inspirations were coming to me as well.

This was a real achievement for me, because I knew in that moment that I was attracting success. My subconscious mind was constantly working on it, even whilst I stopped for lunch or dinner.

My conscious mind had no real knowledge of it. I wasn’t thinking about the site consciously, but noticed that my subconscious was.

The rest is history… Positivity Space is one of my greatest successes so far. When the site launched I had over 20 partners who were helping to promote the site (all of which were attracted to me) and we sold hundreds of trial memberships in the first couple of days.

It was beautiful to experience.

My level of commitment to the site whilst it was being built was similar to an addiction. I was addicted to working on the site and loved every minute of it. The success of the site was being created by my subconscious mind even before it launched.

So, my questions to you are…

  • Are you addicted to your desires?
  • Does your subconscious mind even know about them?
  • What can you do get them playing over and over again in your minds eye?

I need to be that addicted to my blog, yes, I think about my blog constatly, but draw blanks on how to write it effectively so others will be helped. I am doing affirmations now to help myself.
    Suggestions??

    Hi Irene,

If you’re lacking good content ideas, one thing I do is always carry with me a small notebook. Then when I get hit with inspiration throughout the day, I jot it down. By the end of the week, I’ve normally got about 3-4 good ideas for blog posts.

Another way of getting inspiration is to ask for it! Ask the universe to give you some inspiration and thats it, your job is done. The universe will respond if you let it in.

After a meditation yesterday I was given 2 ideas straight which will turn into good blog posts or articles.

Ooooh, what an interesting point you bring up, Gary!

I, too, notice that at night and times when I’m away from my computer, my mind is running over the next steps in my blogs and websites…I am cursed with a mind that never rests. :|

The really amazing idea within this post is, of course, that we can use this process for anything!

This truly is the law of attraction in action, as you say. If we go to sleep while focusing intently on a question, a plan or something else that means a great deal to us, our subconsious mind goes on through the night pulling strings, moving virtual puzzle pieces and aligning things with our desires.

Again, you are right…ASK, and you shall unfailingly receive. Currently, I am focusing on really listening to my inner voice (wherever it comes from) and tuning out external stimuli which may conflict with my intentions, and mask any answers I am getting. It sounds liek you are doing the same thing…

So - be careful what you let in to your mind, and what you let out to the universe - think the right thoughts!

Take care, and thanks again for the insight.

I really like the idea of re-purposing the mind’s natural tendency toward repetitive thought - which is often focused on negative thoughts - and using it to focus on positive goals.

@Gary - what was the tipping point for you where you noticed your unconscious mind working on the site? Was it after a certain amount of effort or meditation or did it happen quickly?

  11. Gary on June 2nd, 2008 12:48 pm

    Hi Maria,

I began noticing it about 2 days after working on the site. I was spending considerable time working on it though because it was my number 1 focus of attention.

Although I was meditating at that time, I’m pretty certain that it was all down to the amount of time I was putting in and the fact that it was my only object of attention. It felt timeless, I didn’t need to stop for breaks because I was enjoying myself.

When I play an addictive game for like 4 hours straight, I also find that in just 4 hours my sub-conscious mind is already playing it over and over again.

You just need that passion to do it for a lengthy period of time and have the continued passion to keep working towards your goal day after day.

Hope this was what you were looking for.

Thanks for the thorough response, Gary. It’s quite interesting to me that becoming addicted can be both a negative and positive experience.
