Do You Need A Contingency Plan?
24th October 2008
A few weeks ago I got asked an excellent question from someone who had purchased my Manifest a Miracle system. The question went something like…
“Do I need a contingency plan in case my original desire doesn’t show up? Or, is having the contingency plan sending the wrong message?”
It’s a great question and one that I think all of us can learn from.
Have you ever been on a long road trip somewhere and made sure you packed your spare tire.. just in case? Maybe you needed to use the spare tire and you were glad you packed the spare! But, did you attract the flat tire because you prepared for a flat tire?
My parents brought me up making sure I was prepared for the worst case scenario. If we went anywhere, I had to make sure I had an umbrella and a warm sweater… “just in case”.
I can now see how preparing for the worst case scenario, can land you smack in the middle of it. But it’s not always so. You see… preparing for the worst isn’t always such a bad thing because it’s the energy you send out about those situations and not the actual preparing that is doing the attracting.
Taking a sweater with you can do one of two things:
- It can make you feel good knowing that you will be warm no matter what happens
- Or, it can make you feel bad because you might be thinking about bad situations that could happen where you’ll actually need to use the sweater
It’s all vibrational and so the decision as to whether you should have a contingency plan or not is entirely dependent upon how it makes you feel to do so.
If it feels good - then do it!
And if not, then put it out of your mind and glide blissfully along your life experience.
Right now in my life, I am enjoying adding money to a savings account. It brings me a lot of joy to transfer money into that account and every time I check my Internet Banking, it makes me feel great!
For some people, adding money to a savings account may not feel so wonderful. They may be adding the money there for a reason and every time they see the money in there, it reminds them that that money will no longer be there in a couple of months time.
If making a contingency plan feels like the right thing to do and will stop you from feeling bad and stop you from worrying - then surely that is a very good thing.
Will it delay the original manifestation? The more time you spend feeling good, the quicker your manifestations occur and so if it makes you feel good to make that contingency plan, then it is actually helping you move closer to your original desire.
Just make sure you follow your feelings and go with what feels best.

Gary you offer a great deal of vital and simple information. I look forward to your emails and enjoy reading your blog. Thank You
Gary: Great question. Thank you for sharing. I can really relate to this. I have been going through a VERY DIFFICULT TIME being given the reality of a divorce after 24 years to which I am still in a sense of shock. I do a lot of thinking about a “Contingency Plan” as I am now forced to provide for coverage of the lions share of debt and less than half as much income to cover them than my now ex-husband. I am doing my best to create the best however I feel like I need to be realistic to the income to debt ratio since I will have to try to obtain loans for my daughters college to fill and IMMEDIATE NEED. I also have asked, very much feel it, believe it will come and have let it go for abundance to follow. The contingency plan makes me feel like I am pleasing many around me I think more than me but it also gives me somewhat of a “security blanket” feeling. Still a little unsure of it all. I just received my divorce papers yesterday and now feel a bit better and feel somewhat freed to pursue and put more time into the Manifest a Miracle system you have graciously provided. Thank you. I can directly relate to this question in my life right now, I like your answer. I know if for some unseen reasons I have to go to plan B, I will still ultimately complete plan A
I believe Wallace D Wattles had the idea of Saving Money For a New Opportunity is what you save that money for… so it is definitely What you think that might happen that should not be the reason to save money.
Napoleon Hill further discusses this in his book, the Laws of Success and gives very practical advice in his Lesson on the Habit of Saving Money … and he goes on further to explain that when you see an opportunity, that you need to borrow money from an institution if you have a record of saving money consistently, the Bank officer will be able to lend you the money more readily.
By all means save the money for a potentiaL OPPPORTUNITY.

I knew the answer within me but not in so many words. I recently took a road trip driving through the second highest road in the world. Our check list included many such items which were never used and were also not kept with feelings of apprehension. They were therefore in no way an impediment to our original dream. And our trip was a dream fulfilled.God bless all.
Practical Suggestions gleaned from Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success…
Start looking at your Discretionary expenses
Cigarettes
Chewing Gum
Soda Pop
Cigars / Whiskey Shots for friends
Movie theaters
Barber Shaves
Newspapers
Shoeshines done by Porter
Video Games
Recorded Audiotapes CD’s DVD’s etc
Candy Bars
I have listed only a few here.
Now take some time and figure out What you could save if you eliminated just a few of these discretionary thrils and frills and instead put this amount in your savings account every Payday.
Assuming you don’t use a credit card to run you over your limit of earning money what could you save for that opportunity?
According to every success thinker I have read, they seem to say the same thing.
Stop and think. Do you really need to keep up with the Jonses or the Simons and spend like they do? Dou you need a Rolls Royce or a Cadillac when a Ford or a Pontiac will do? Do you realy need that car when the you have a good transportation system is available …
Let me ask you on a regular work day to stand at the bus stop and see how many cars are whizzing by with JUST the Driver in the Car … and at 4:00 to 6:00 pm see how many cars have just one person in the car?
Let’s assume you have room in that car for 6 people. Try a car pool with 4 including the Driver.
Each passenger pays for the gas fillup once a week Lets say they put in $9 worth of gas. Each person pays $3 towards the gas fillup. The driver does not pay since he drives the group to work.
we have eliminated 3 cars from the traffic for each car pool and save money as a result.
High vibrational frequency no matter what, high vibrational frequency no matter what, high vibrational frequency no matter what, high vibrational frequency no matter what…
That’s the answer, I agree with you, Gary. It’s all in the feeling our actions create. The actions themselves don’t seem to be so important to me-since I’ve learned by experience that good things come hand in hand with good feelings ONLY-.
I had always had a contigency plan and often needed it. This time, with huge changes in my life, it comes that I don’t have ANY contingency plan, & I’m not planning on having it, because I do know, with complete certainty, that I won’t need it.
Cheers!
Patricia
Hi Gary,
What a great question ~ and what great comments too
One thing that hasn’t been said yet ~ and which is something that actually produces a lot of joy in MY life ~ is to create a reserve fund from which I am able to take immediate advantage of new opportunities.
While I am 100% clear that the Universe responds to my intentions according to my vibrations, it may not do so within the time frame that I would prefer. Thus, when I create a pool of reserve funds from which to draw for anything I choose, there is an ongoing sense of abundance, prosperity, and well-being.
This fund also allows me, when Spirit so moves me, to be generous and to share the joy and appreciation.
The key is how I think about what I’m doing.
If I am doing this from a place of fear, or hording, then the energy of restriction attaches to what I create. Since this is an energy I release when I feel it, what I create instead is a joyful, grateful, pool of reserves that can respond immediately to what presents itself for my consideration.
I love living this way! Thank you for bring this positive message to the world.
Nancy
Thank you for putting into words what I felt for so long. This is a wonderful post.
Dear Gary, It’s been three years since I watched the movie, ‘The Secret’. I was fascinated by it and for the whole three years, I wanted to apply it and tried and tried but to no avail! Just today, I was blessed to receive your ‘ Law of Attraction Report’. My eyes have been glued to my pc reading it over and over again! I must say that something inside me has already changed..I’m feeling some certain kind of ‘joy’ as well as ‘hope’ that I’m going to get there :-)! I’m so grateful you sent it…have already started working on it. Carmen
