Dieting with the Law of Attraction
25th July 2008
Have you tried to use the Law of Attraction to lose weight, but haven’t had much (or any) success?
Here’s the approach most people take…
- You look in the mirror and don’t like what you see
- You decide that you must get rid of this excess meat
- You start a diet or join a gym to work out
So, what’s going wrong with this process?
Firstly, most people don’t tend to stick to diets or exercise routines. I’m sure there are many people who have evidence and philosophies as to why this is, but my own personal opinion is because they are doing something that deep down inside of them they do not want to do.
So they have this constant battle in their minds… the dominant thought almost always wins and so they stop their diet or stop exercising.
Another cause of this failure is because they are not aware of the Law of Attraction.
As we know… whatever you give your attention to you will create more of.
When you observe how over weight you are, are you moving towards your goal of losing weight, or away from it?
When you decide you must diet in order to get rid of the weight, are you giving attention to having a body that has lost the weight, or are you giving your attention to a body that HASN’T lost the weight?
When you talk to your friend about the weight you must lose, are you in alignment with losing weight, or are you moving further away?
The only way you can ever attract something you desire is by giving your full attention to what it is that you want.
You cannot attract better health if you continue to give your attention to the fact that you have poor health.
You cannot use the Law of Attraction to lose weight if you continue to give your focus and attention to your current bodily condition.

Thank you for this post, Gary! My question to you is…so, what SHOULD I do? I have been trying to shed some pounds using LOA for a while now, but don’t seem to be having much luck…I try to appreciate people who have a slim body, I try to look at parts of my body that I do like and appreciate them, but do you have any further suggestions?
Hi Brooke,
Stay tuned! My next blog post is going to cover some things that you can do to lose those pounds whilst utilizing the LoA.
Thanks for stopping by and for reading my blog.

What I’ve been doing, Brooke & Gary, is paying super close attention to what feels good and going in that direction.
That includes a wide variety of things like wearing clothes that are easy to feel good in (yes I bought new ones a size bigger - but it works because I feel good in them).
I eat what feels good - sometimes that’s a fruit shake, sometimes veggie pizza, sometimes a brownie, sometimes a big spinach salad - and everything I eat, I remind myself that my body thrives when I eat what feels good. (Instead of thinking about all the experts who would tell me I’m sabotaging weight loss by eating these things.)
I let my body tell me what feels good as far as movement goes. Sometimes she wants to spend ten minutes on the elliptical, sometimes she wants to do yoga, sometimes she wants to take a nap. We go with whatever feels good.
More key than anything, though, has been holding the thouhts that feel good. Admiring the parts that are easy to admire. Reminding myself we’re making good progress, heading in the right direction, etc. etc. And I let compliments from others really sink in.
Because I know as I do what feels good, good things will happen. I’ve lost 30% of my goal in just under two weeks following this LOA approach.
Hope it helps give you ideas, Brooke!

It’s easy to trail to the things that we do not want to attract because our mind has been so ingrained in negative thinking for the longest time. This is why I believe so much in investigating and re-training the mind.
You’ve rightly pointed out that when we want good health, we are really thinking about our current poor health; and so on. Thanks for re-validating such an important reality of what our mind is actually doing!
Thanks Jeannette! That’s a brilliant result so far.
It’s no surprise though… when you feel good, good things happen. And its clear that you’re listening to your inner guidance and moving towards only the things that will give you more joy.
Congratulations and thank you for stopping by. I really admire your work.

Thank you Evelyn!
Yes I agree, just a little bit of focus and attention on what we DO want, really can yield some terrific results.
The more one practices deliberate creation, the better and easier it all becomes. That’s what I’m discovering anyway.
Create a wonderful weekend for yourself,
Gary
Here are my tips. The only time I have ever managed to lose a good bit of weight, I kept saying over and over to myself ‘I am a ballerina’. (I’m not of course.) I would imagine myself as beautifully svelte and slim and it really did work. The other thing I discovered recently when I broke my foot and could not walk for six weeks. Doctors say if you want to lose weight you have to walk 2000 steps I think but this means at least an hour and a half by my calculation. I found that I could lie on my bed or sit in an armchair with my feet stretched in front of me on a chair and do what I call air-walking. It is very boring which is where the tv comes in. If you do it for an hour a day and avoid the worst calorific stuff like sugar most days, you will lose weight because you can do about 4,000 steps like this in an hour. It really works and I lost a few kilos despite being bed-ridden. Thanks Gary. Helen
