Becoming At Peace With This Moment
31st December 2007
At times, life can be very turbulent. In most humans, there is metaphorical peace and war going on all the time. The thoughts and feelings that you hold, which affect your vibrational frequency, determine what you will ultimately attract in your day-to-day experience. Learning to raise your energy so that you attract positive, peaceful circumstances is very important, however is attracting material “stuff” going to truly make you happy?
Think back to a time when you achieved something, it can be anything at all. Do you still feel as happy as you did when you achieved it? Or can you remember when you got your very first car? How happy and excited were you? Only to discover that a few months later you wanted something bigger and better than before.
The truth of the matter is that the material world will never bring you true substantial happiness. It brings an illusionary instant gratification but that is all.
Only true happiness can be found deep within yourself.

The best part about this is that you can experience this happiness in every single moment. When you release the need for the material world to bring you the instant gratifications then you can begin to become truly and deeply happy with any moment at all. That isn’t to say that the material world isn’t important or shouldn’t be given your attention. It’s quite alright to want the car, the money, the house or the perfect health. But holding these material items as something that will truly fulfill you is an illusion and this is a trap that most have fallen into.
Would you like to experience the inner happiness that can be with you in every moment, right now?
After you’ve read this paragraph, stop in the moment, and listen to all of the sounds around you. You may hear cars driving past your house, you may hear a dog barking, you may hear birds chirping, you may hear the hum of a heating system or the noises of a washing machine. Maybe you will hear nothing at all and you will simply hear silence. Whatever you hear, listen to it. Listen to it intensively.
Keep listening to the background noise as intensely as you can. Don’t seek for anything to happen because nothing is supposed to happen. You may find that your mental chatter tries to cloud the noise by chattering away, allow that to happen also. Don’t resist anything, but keep your focus.
This is where you will find the true inner happiness I have been speaking of.
When you don’t need to add anything to a moment is when you will experience the true inner happiness. It’s always been there with you, it’s just most of us choose not to experience it.

Wish you all the best for the year 2008
Thank you Shamelle,
Happy New Year!
Wishing you success in abundance for 2008,
Gary
So true. Most people are planning to be happy in the future (once I get this, then I’ll be…).
You can only be happy now. Not tomorrow, but NOW.
“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful. ” (Buddha)
Are our thoughts responsible for our emotions? Or is it the other way around - our emotions are responsible for our thoughts? Expressed another way - do we “feel” happy because we think happy or do we think happy because we feel happy?
I’m not sure that I know the definitive answer (or even if there IS a definite answer). But, I do believe that we can change the way we feel by changing what we think about.
If I am not happy, I can think back to a time when I was happy. I can remember what thoughts that I had at that time, and I can think those thoughts again. I might even be able to relate those thoughts to my present situation, and dwell on those thoughts. By thinking “Happy” I can be happy.
If it works for me, it might also work for anyone else? If you are not happy and you want to be happy, do your very best to think of things that make you happy.

Thanks for your comments, Nico.
As you say… NOW is all there is. Nothing else is worth giving your attention to. Unfortunately the group consciousness (ego consciousness?) loves to remain in the past or the future, but very rarely in the present moment.
Thanks for the great quotation. I love it!
Wishing you a very Happy New Year,
Gary
Hi Will,
Great insights! My own personal opinion is that our thoughts directly determine what our emotions/feelings will be.
Michael Losier explains that its our words that affect our thoughts. Our thoughts affect our emotions.. and our emotions affect our vibration, which ultimately determines what we attract.
Whether he is right or wrong, what really matters is that we emit a pure vibration free of anything we don’t want. As our emotions play a key role in determining what we attract, it is very important that do whatever we can to feel good.
Thanks Doug! I’m sure your comments will help some of our other readers increase their understanding of how the universe works.
It’s great to meet you & I wish you a very Happy New Year also,
Gary
