So true. Most people are planning to be happy in the future (once I get this, then I’ll be…).

You can only be happy now. Not tomorrow, but NOW.

“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful. ” (Buddha)

Will Dugan, January 2, 2008:

Are our thoughts responsible for our emotions? Or is it the other way around - our emotions are responsible for our thoughts? Expressed another way - do we “feel” happy because we think happy or do we think happy because we feel happy?

I’m not sure that I know the definitive answer (or even if there IS a definite answer). But, I do believe that we can change the way we feel by changing what we think about.

If I am not happy, I can think back to a time when I was happy. I can remember what thoughts that I had at that time, and I can think those thoughts again. I might even be able to relate those thoughts to my present situation, and dwell on those thoughts. By thinking “Happy” I can be happy.

If it works for me, it might also work for anyone else? If you are not happy and you want to be happy, do your very best to think of things that make you happy.

Thanks for your comments, Nico.

As you say… NOW is all there is. Nothing else is worth giving your attention to. Unfortunately the group consciousness (ego consciousness?) loves to remain in the past or the future, but very rarely in the present moment.

Thanks for the great quotation. I love it!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year,
Gary

Hi Will,

Great insights! My own personal opinion is that our thoughts directly determine what our emotions/feelings will be.

Michael Losier explains that its our words that affect our thoughts. Our thoughts affect our emotions.. and our emotions affect our vibration, which ultimately determines what we attract.

Whether he is right or wrong, what really matters is that we emit a pure vibration free of anything we don’t want. As our emotions play a key role in determining what we attract, it is very important that do whatever we can to feel good.

Thanks Doug! I’m sure your comments will help some of our other readers increase their understanding of how the universe works.

It’s great to meet you & I wish you a very Happy New Year also,

Gary
