Identifying Your Dreams and Desires

Writing your intentions down is critical to your success. Writing has a magic ability to crystallize your intention and also provides a great method to place great amounts of focus and attention upon your desires.
Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich believed that writing your intentions down was one of the most critical stages in the manifestation process. Without it, one would fail to achieve the desire.
At first glance, identifying your desires sounds like a very easy task. Most would say, “I want more money,” or “I want a bigger home.” These are perfect desires to have, yet they lack any substantial detail. For example, let’s say for a moment that you do manifest a bigger home, but this new home you manifest does not have a kitchen. A very basic necessity to any home, yet because you didn’t define it, you weren’t given it. Or perhaps the home you manifest is bigger, but it requires more work to be done and isn’t what you want.
As soon as you give birth to a new desire, the Law of Attraction immediately begins working in your favour. As you begin to define the details of your desire, the Law of Attraction responds accordingly to incorporate your new asking.
The best way to get involved with the specifics of your desires and to determine exactly what you really want is by making an intention list. An intention list is as it sounds, a list of everything you want, dream of or desire.
You’ll probably want to make many intention lists, but for now focus on one desire per list. Grab a sheet of paper and title the page with your desire. Next, draw a line down the middle making two sections. On the right hand side, start listing everything that you do not want. We are conditioned to focus upon the negative aspects of a situation instead of the positives, so identifying what you don’t want should be a breeze!
Let’s say your desire is a new relationship. You begin to list everything that you do not want, such as:
- Spending night’s home by myself
- Doing all of the cooking and cleaning on my own
- Someone who watches the football all of the time
- A poor listener
- Not very romantic
On the left hand side of the page, you then write the polar opposite to what you said you didn’t want.
Not very romantic >> becomes >> Romantic & loving
A poor listener >> becomes >> Listens to my suggestions
By focussing on what you do want, instead of what you don’t want you are able to tell the Law of Attraction in detail how you want your desire to be.
Now that you’ve got your list, make good use out of it. Grab a new sheet of paper and write out all of those positive things that you want. We no longer need those old negatives dislikes in our life, so it’s best you throw that old piece of paper in the trash.
With your new list of positive aspects around your desire, place the list somewhere that you will look often. Maybe you could put it in your bathroom, bedroom, toilet, office or kitchen? Or perhaps you will check your handbag or wallet more often? Put the list where you will see it frequently. At least twice a day read your intentions list to yourself.
What you want to do now is to really get into the feeling as if you’ve already got your desire with all of the details you’ve specified. This can be as long or as short a process as you make it to be – as long as you’re feeling the feelings as already having it then your work is complete.
You will quickly discover that an intention list will be something you always want to keep around. They are great fun to write, fun to read, and most importantly, all of that fun will eventually transmute into manifestation.

The Door To The Temple Of Wisdom

After you have mastered the principles described in this book, you will be prepared to accept as truth a statement which may, otherwise, be incredible to you, namely:Through the aid of the sixth sense, you will be warned of impending dangers in time to avoid them, and notified of opportunities in time to embrace them.There comes to your aid, and to do your bidding, with the development of the sixth sense, a “guardian angel” who will open to you at all times the door to the Temple of Wisdom.
The first time I came across this chapter on The Sixth Sense, I didn’t fully understand what I was reading. My beliefs had already been shattered though so I didn’t dismiss it. Instead, like every process in Think and Grow Rich, I tried it.
I’ll share with you what my experiences were with this in my next blog post.
But for now, let’s briefly look over what Napoleon is suggesting.
Simply put, Napoleon would form an imaginary meeting in his mind and would imagine a meeting was taking place. He was the meetings organizer and everyone in this meeting was chosen because they had knowledge he wished to accumulate.
His meeting would consist of;

Charles Darwin
Abraham Lincoln
Luther Burbank
Henry Ford
Andrew Carnegie
He would hold this meeting every day in his imagination and invited the same members.
What he discovered was that these so called imaginary meetings began not being so imaginary. He found that their characters were being developed in every meeting. Surprisingly, after doing his research on these men’s lives, he discovered that the characters in his mind were extremely similar to the ones in his imaginary meetings.
Here’s an excerpt of one of the conversations Napoleon experienced…
One evening Edison arrived ahead of all the others. He walked over and seated himself at my left, where Emerson was accustomed to sit, and said, “You are destined to witness the discovery of the secret of life. When the time comes, you will observe that life consists of great swarms of energy, or entities, each as intelligent as human beings think themselves to be. These units of life group together like hives of bees, and remain together until they disintegrate, through lack of harmony.
These units have differences of opinion, the same as human beings, and often fight among themselves. These meetings which you are conducting will be very helpful to you. They will bring to your rescue some of the same units of life which served the members of your Cabinet, during their lives. These units are eternal. THEY NEVER DIE! Your own thoughts and DESIRES serve as the magnet which attracts units of life, from the great ocean of life out there. Only the friendly units are attracted–the ones which harmonize with the nature of your DESIRES.”
I believe these are much more than imaginary encounters.

Your Brain Has Over 60,000 Thoughts Per Day

Did you know that the average person’s brain has 60,000 thoughts every single day? If not more.
It’s incredible when you think about how unconscious we really are. How many of those 60,000 are you consciously aware of? 100? 200? 1,000?
My interest in how many thoughts I experience every day has greatly increased since I’ve been practicing becoming present and being one with the stillness within. I’m always surprised at how easy it is to slip into an unconscious state where you’re so identified with the thoughts that you don’t notice them for what they are.
It’s easy to believe that your thoughts are you since you’ve experienced them with you all of the time for such lengthy periods of time.
The first thing you do in the morning when you awake is start to go through your morning thoughts…
“Oh I must do this…”
“Brush my teeth”
“Get a shower”
“I’m going to have two boiled eggs for breakfast”
“Why is she not awake yet?”
“Where’s my slippers?”
“Oh, that looks nice”
“What a terrible dream last night”
And it starts from just a moment or two after you become consciously awake.
Being so identified with your thoughts where you believe you are those thoughts will only lead you to an unfulfilled life where you’re constantly seeking something new to fulfil you. The new relationship, the new car, the new home, the new job etc. All of this wanting and needing is created by your thoughts.
There’s nothing wrong with experiencing all of those things, but when you see them as a way to make your life complete, that is when you’re still identifying with your thoughts and your ego.
If you spend a little time noticing your thoughts and observing what they are, you’ll quickly become present and if you hold that for a few seconds, you’ll find that your thoughts gradually disappear.
Who is it that observes the thoughts?
It is your true self.
You are the consciousness that gives thoughts the attention.
You are the consciousness that can know your hand is still there.
You are the consciousness that hears the sound of rain drops.
You do not think. The brain thinks. You give the brain the consciousness to think.
Try observing some of your thoughts throughout your day. Just notice that they are there, whatever they may be. After you have an argument with someone, notice what you’re thinking. Maybe you get a job promotion, notice what thoughts you’re having because of it. Whatever happens, notice your thoughts.
Doing so for the entire day is a big ask. Watching out for 60,000 thoughts is a full-time job and one that no one I know of could manage. Instead of trying to notice all of them, when you do notice that you’re thinking, just observe what thoughts are there. Simple.

You Attract What You Give Your Attention

Whatever you give your attention to, you will attract more of.
I’m sure you already realize that, but how often are you simply reacting to circumstances and unconsciously giving them your attention? It happens to all of us and a lot of the time!
Something in your life story can happen unexpectedly and like a light bulb being switched on, you’ll instantly forget about what you’re giving your attention.
“He shouldn’t have said that”
“How dare you!”
“You should be locked up”
“I can’t believe its just happened to me”
“What am I going to do?”
These sorts of thoughts are instantly available to you because you’ve practiced them many times before. They’ve become habitual. It’s not the end of the world though, you CAN stop your reaction to these events by becoming present in the moment and giving the situation your attention, not your thoughts.
If action is required, it will come to you. If no action is required, then the situation has now resolved itself.

Here’s ten of my most favorite Abraham-Hicks quotes…
Use whatever excuse you can to vibrate in harmony with those things you’ve been saying you want. And when you do, those things that are a vibrational equivalent flow into your experience in abundance. Not because you deserve it, not because you’ve earned it, but because it’s the natural consequence of the Law of Attraction. That which is like unto itself is drawn.
Think of this random universe where everything is possible. The organizational skills belong to the Law of Attraction. If you will relax and allow Law of Attraction to do the organization, the managing, then you can spend your time doing the things that please you.

The standard of success in life isn’t the things. It isn’t the money or the stuff. It is absolutely the amount of joy that you feel.
If you’re not selfish enough to want to feel good, then you can’t connect with the energy that is your Source which does always feel good.
You don’t have to work at being in the high vibration that is natural to you, because it is natural to you. But you do have to stop holding the thoughts that cause you to lower your vibration. It’s a matter of no longer giving your attention to things that don’t allow your cork to float or don’t allow you to vibrate in harmony with who you really are.

You Can Heal Your Life

You’ve probably had some emails in the past month or so about Louise Hay’s new movie… You Can Heal Your Life.
I watched this movie yesterday without having any real expectations about it and I thought it was brilliant! I actually felt it to be better than “The Secret” in many ways, even though both movies are quite different.
For those who are not familiar with Louise Hay and her life journey, you’ll discover that she lived a very dark past with many incredible adversities which she not only overcame but which helped turn her into the person she is today.
The movie is primarily based around the teachings of Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life” and using positive reinforcement to change your reality (affirmations). I felt that everything being said in the movie was very solid and I couldn’t see a way in which the primary message could be misconstrued like it was with “The Secret”.
This in itself is a great blessing and will provide hope and change for the millions who watch the movie!
Gregg Braden shares some great stuff, and something that really stood out to me was one particular story he told… Gregg and his native friend traveled to a sacred area in which they could “pray rain”. They were in the one of the worst droughts that the area had ever seen. The native friend took off his work shoes and entered the sacred stoned circle area to pray.
After a few moments, the praying man stopped and told Gregg he was finished and ready to get something to eat. Gregg asked the man “did you pray for rain?”. He replied “No. Praying for rain would imply that rain is not here, instead I felt the feelings of rain… I felt the feeling of what it feels like rainy mud beneath my feet, I felt the smell of the rain filled air. I gave thanks and gratitude for the rain thats already happened.”

I felt that was a very significant story. I know many people struggle with what words they should use when asking for something. Using “I want” allows you to “want” something… wanting isn’t having. Praying for something is implying it is not already yours and so holding you apart from what you want.
There’s some great nuggets just like this one throughout the entire movie. It’s a wonderful and very empowering movie that I believe is a must-see! You won’t be sorry that you did… even the most advanced “spiritual” person will take something positive away from it.
I was primarily interested in the movie because of some of the other participants like Wayne Dyer, Esther & Jerry Hicks, Gregg Braden, Gay Hendricks, etc. Up until now I’ve not had much of a connection to Louise Hay and her book, but after seeing the movie I feel more of a connection to her teaching and to what she has to share.

Why Won’t The Law of Attraction Work For Me?

If you’ve tried using the Law of Attraction and have failed to manifest what you want, then rest assured that you are not alone. Many thousands of people have given up far too quickly once they’ve decided that it doesn’t work for them.
But why doesn’t it work for them? And why doesn’t it work for you?
The truth of the matter is, you are using the Law of Attraction in every single moment. Are you consciously choosing thoughts in order to manipulate future events and circumstances? Or are you of the opinion that the thoughts in your mind are random and cannot be controlled?
It takes work, it takes persistence and it takes real determination to change your habitual thoughts. It is not impossible and it is something that every single person can do regardless of your education and upbringing.
In my opinion, there are three killer reasons why people tend to “fail” at using the Law of Attraction:
They used thoughts instead of emotions – It is not your thoughts that have the attraction power, it is your emotions. The universe does not hear your words nor does it see your pictures, but it does respond to your vibration. Emotions are what emit vibrations. After watching movies like “The Secret” some people misinterpreted the message and felt that if they thought about something for long enough then it would manifest.
This would be the case if they mixed their thoughts with emotion and become emotionally involved with their desire.
Time for an example: When I was younger, I was terrified of spiders – every time I saw one my heart would beat faster and I would feel the feelings of being scared and afraid. Looking back at the situation now, I can clearly see how I kept on attracting spiders into my life! I was putting great amounts of emotion into something that I didn’t want causing them to come into my life experience very frequently. Since switching my thoughts and not giving them any attention, I very rarely see them.
They don’t want their desire enough – There are those people who do understand what they have to do, but they are unable to focus enough time and attention onto their desires. Why? Because they don’t care about it enough! You may hear someone say “I want a million dollars” but when you ask that person why they want a million dollars they can only give you a few answers… “So I won’t ever have to worry again,” or “So I can buy a big home”. These reasons are perfectly fine, but they haven’t given the whole scenario enough thought – what exactly are they going to spend the money on? By working out the details you become more emotionally attached and invoke more emotional energy.
Took score too soon – Every time you say “Where’s my stuff?” what message do you think you’re putting out to the universe? Not one of having or expectation that’s for sure! Do whatever you need to do to prevent yourself from taking score and seeing all of your “stuff”. You need to be so confident that you will achieve your desire that you expect it to come to you. There is no taking score required ever! From this day forward make the firm decision that you will never take score of your current situation… that type of thinking is simply living in the past and it does not serve you.
So what can you do immediately to start brining your desires home?
Find a private area that you can spend 20-30 minutes alone every day without being disturbed and use that time to simply relax. Do not play any music, or watch any television, focus solely on yourself and quiet your mind. Make sure you close your eyes and start to visualize your desires as if they’re already here.
Imagine that it has happened right now, and feel what you would feel had it happened. The more excited and worked up you can get, the better.
I find it best to focus on a maximum of 3 desires at a time. Spend the first 10 minutes focusing entirely on that first desire. Don’t drift away from the thoughts, stay with it. Keep living it, and milk the feelings out of every thought you can conjure! What you will find is that the longer you focus your attention on your desire, the more ideas and emotions you will invoke.
The Law of Attraction works with your thoughts as well you know! In as little as 17 seconds, a like minded thought is being hurled into your mind. So focusing just a little bit of time can yield you some fantastic thoughts and ideas.
Once you’ve completed this daily routine, go on with your normal life and do not give anything negative any of your attention, the more positive you remain the quicker your manifestations will occur. But remember … DO NOT TAKE SCORE.
And that is it, now you must “know” that you’ve done all the work that is required. Everything else will fall into place for you, you’ll be inspired to do something or you’ll meet someone at the perfect time that can help bring about your desires.
Your work is done for that day, now rinse and repeat. Before long, you won’t even remember the days when you weren’t in control of your life.

How Do I Use The Law of Attraction?

You’ve heard about the Law of Attraction, but you’re still having a hard time getting it to work for you? Changing your thoughts can appear a daunting task, but it is one that you must undergo if you truly desire change.
Here’s a question you should begin to ponder … Is my goals and desires worth the effort required in order to bring about the manifestation?
Changing your thoughts to focus upon positive aspects most of the time is a time consuming challenge and will require persistence and a real determination to change. It will be a lot of work, but it will not be hard work.
Personally, I think that a lot of people perceive it to be “hard” work and so they give up and go back to their mediocre lifestyles. Let’s put this into perspective, if feeling good and imagining your desires as if they are already here is hard work, then something has gone horribly wrong in your deciphering of what it is that you want.
This stuff shouldn’t be hard work at all! It should be the most fun work you’ve ever had. Dreaming and visualizing about how you want your life to be is a wonderful experience.
There are three major factors we need to take into consideration when designing our lifestyles:
Thoughts – What you hold in your mind on a continuous basis is crucial to what you’re going to see in your future. It is your words that help define the thoughts you hold and it is your thoughts that help define what you will feel. Unfortunately a lot of us have got a lot of negative conditioning and we are so used to thinking in a certain way, that it does appear daunting when change is proposed.
Your thoughts are quite easy to change though - you just need to start feeding your mind with some positive thoughts and positive words on a continuous basis. Your feelings will soon change after you’ve been exposed to some positive “good feeling” thoughts.
Emotions – Pay attention to your feelings! If you feel bad, you’re certainly not on the right track and need to get out of that feeling as soon as possible. Feeling good is your dominant proclivity and it is your birth right. The only reason you can ever feel bad is if you hold thoughts that do not allow well being in. Good feelings are natural to you. When you hold no thought at all, you feel wonderful because you are more connected to your true source which always feels good.
As you become more focussed on thinking positive, abundant and prosperous thoughts you will begin seeing your world around you change to adapt to your new perceptions. I invite you to practice feeling great for 7 days straight … I promise you that you won’t want to go back to your old way of thinking.
Ability to Act – In most cases, our manifestations will come about in inspired actions. You will be inspired to do something, or you will receive inspired thoughts about what you should do next. This can be invigorating and when the conceptions are received it can be one of the joyous moments you can ever experience.
You must act on these inspirations with speed. That does not mean drop everything you were doing and act right away, but still jot down your inspired action and look into it later on.
Remember, there is no shortage of anything that the universe can yield to you, including opportunity. Do not beat yourself up if you feel you’ve missed an opportunity or if something fell through when you really wanted it to happen. If you are in harmony with the universe then an abundance of opportunity will present itself and will keep presenting itself until you do act.
