How to Make Practical Use of Imagination

Napoleon illustrated how the use of imagination can yield great fortunes by sharing 2 powerful stories where great riches were accumulated. The first story he shared was titled The Enchanted Kettle which told the story of how Coca-Cola was first formed! A young drug store clerk was bartering with an old Doctor who had an old style kettle, a big wooden paddle and the recipe for Coca-Cola. The clerk paid the doctor $500 (his entire life savings) for the kettle and recipe and took a giant leap of faith in what he had just purchased.

The clerk never did conceive the idea himself, yet he was able to add a magical ingredient that the Doctor never could have conceived… Imagination! I’m sure we are all well aware of how successful Coca-Cola has been in the past 100 years. A huge fortune has been made all from which started as an idea in a young drug clerks mind.

The second story, What I Would Do If I Had a Million Dollars, is about Doctor Frank W. Gunsaulus, a man with a vision to become head of an educational institution where students would be taught through ‘doing’ as apposed to the traditional methods of teaching.

This story highlighted an important message which Napoleon didn’t emphasize yet it hit me like a ton of bricks. Dr. Gunsaulus was a philosopher as well as a preacher, he had a burning desire to begin his work, yet he lacked one thing… $1 million dollars that would be spent setting up this educational facility.

Napoleon takes up the story…

He needed a million dollars to put the project across! Where was he to lay his hands on so large a sum of money? That was the question that absorbed most of this ambitious young preacher’s thought.

But he couldn’t seem to make any progress. Every night he took that thought to bed with him. He got up with it in the morning. He took it with him everywhere he went. He turned it over and over in his mind until it became a consuming obsession with him. A million dollars is a lot of money. He recognized that fact, but he also recognized the truth that the only limitation is that which one sets up in one’s own mind.

Being a philosopher as well as a preacher, Dr. Gunsaulus recognized, as do all who succeed in life, that DEFINITENESS OF PURPOSE is the starting point from which one must begin. He recognized, too, that definiteness of purpose takes on animation, life, and power when backed by a BURNING DESIRE to translate that purpose into its material equivalent.

He knew all these great truths, yet he did not know where, or how to lay his hands on a million dollars. The natural procedure would have been to give up and quit, by saying, “Ah well, my idea is a good one, but I cannot do anything with it, because I never can procure the necessary million dollars.” That is exactly what the majority of people would have said, but it is not what Dr. Gunsaulus said.

How many times have we all been in that situation??!

You’ve received an inspired idea, your palms have gotten a little sweaty, you’re feeling really excited by where this new idea may lead … and then … your thoughts start to kick in …

• Who do you think you are?
• Don’t be so stupid
• Be realistic
• Do what you know
• You can’t earn money doing what you enjoy
• You’ve got financial responsibilities
• Get real…

Great idea but you’ve come to a brick wall. How you react when you see that brick wall will ultimately determine your success or failure.

This is why having a “success consciousness” is so important. If you don’t have the right mentality how could you ever expect to create what you’ve been dreaming about? If you’re willing to curl up at the first sign of a problem, how could you ever expect to achieve anything great?

Applying Napoleon’s 13 principles will lead you to great achievements – but you will have to put the work in, and actually apply the principles if you truly desire your ticket to successful living.

Back to our story then …

The time had come for ACTION!

I made up my mind, then and there, that I would get the necessary million dollars within a week. How? I was not concerned about that. The main thing of importance was the decision to get the money within a specified time, and I want to tell you that the moment I reached a definite decision to get the money within a specified time, a strange feeling of assurance came over me, such as I had never before experienced. Something inside me seemed to say, ‘Why didn’t you reach that decision a long time ago? The money was waiting for you all the time!’

Things began to happen in a hurry. I called the newspapers and announced I would preach a sermon the following morning, entitled, ‘What I would do if I had a Million Dollars.’

In just 36 hours after making the decision, Dr. Gunsaulus had organized a sermon, attracted the right people to the event and had met someone willing to give him the $1 million required. He went on to found the Armour Institute of Technology, named after Phillip D. Armour the gentleman who provided Dr. Gunsaulus with the money.

If that’s not an inspiring story, then I don’t know what is!

How to Develop Your Imagination

Whether you believe you have a creative imagination or not, you have the ability to be just as creative as anyone else. The difference between your creativity and the perceived creativity of another is the repetitive use of the imagination.

See your imagination like a muscle that you must exercise in order to get the juicy ideas. The more you practice using your imagination, the easier, clearer and more creative your imagination becomes.

So we develop our imaginations by using it more!

Every morning I complete something called a “Gratitude Diary” which I use to write down a list of everything I am grateful for that day. This simple process has helped to increase my imagination tenfold because I set myself a task of completing an entire page before I go onto other things.

When I review what I’ve written in my gratitude diary there is often a clear progressive thought pattern emerging. It’s like the first item links to the second item, and the second item links to the third, and so on.

If I was to ask you to think of a candle and tell me other thoughts that you have around a candle, you may answer by saying wax, flame, flickering, white, etc. Your imagination works from the food (thoughts) that you feed it.

Abraham Hicks has told us that if we focus on a thought for as little as 17 seconds, the Law of Attraction will bring you another similar thought that you did not have access to previously. This is exactly what happens every morning when I complete my gratitude diary. I start off and focus for a few seconds until another thought ‘pops’ into my mind!

Anyway, I use a very simple technique to focus my imagination and to acquire new ideas that I would like to share with you. Let’s say I’m searching for an idea of a new article to write about, first I grab a sheet of paper and write my point of attention in the middle. So in this example, I would write “Law of Attraction Article” (point of attention) in the middle of that piece of paper. I then focus on that subject and begin to write words around the point of attention that I currently have access to in my head.

In this example I may begin to write things like… gratitude, energy, the secret, etc.

Within just few short seconds of doing this and holding my attention on this subject, new ideas spring into my mind as if by magic. These are the new similar thoughts that the Law of Attraction has yielded to me. Although those ideas were already in my mind somewhere, I didn’t have access to them until I began to focus!

This is an extremely powerful and quick method to gain new ideas and insights with very little effort at all. Why not give it a try yourself!

The Two Forms of Imagination

The only limitation is that which one sets up in one’s own mind.

There are two forms of imagination. One is known as Synthetic Imagination and the other Creative Imagination.

Synthetic Imagination is simply the re-ordering of current knowledge. It is just the re-arranging of old plans and old ideas into new combinations.

Creative Imagination can be likened to the use of infinite intelligence. When you receive inspired ideas or hunches, it is in those moments when you are using your creative imagination. There is very little control over this faculty as it works automatically for you, you only have access to this type of imagination when your energy is much greater than normal. For example, you have a strong desire for something and you are expelling high amounts of fast, pure energy towards your desire, this is when your creative imagination will begin to receive ideas and inspirations from source energy.

Like any muscle in the body, repetition is essential to developing these imaginative faculties.

In previous chapters we’ve discussed how to create your definite written statement. Step 4 of the practical actions is:

4. Create a definite plan of action that you will adhere to in order to carry out your desire. You must begin this plan at once, whether you feel ready or not.

Use your synthetic imagination to begin creating your plan of action. Re-arrange old plans and ideas that may be swirling around in your mind and organize a new combination of thoughts to form your plan. You do not need to reinvent the wheel, just take an idea that you like and improve upon it.

In the past when I’ve made the decision to start a new business, I’ve always begun doing substantial research. In other words, I look around and see if there is a real demand for what service or product I want to offer. I then look at two important areas, Niche Suitability and Niche Profitability.

Although I am not going to go into detail about them here, what I do always look for is a product or service that is already being offered on the market. Why? Because it has already been proven that it is a profitable niche and a profitable product. I’m not trying to copy anyone though, what I’m doing is improving on something that is already proven to sell. I then look at my competitors products and see what I think they’re doing wrong or how I could improve on it to make it even better.

This is tapping in on my synthetic imagination. There are times when I will run into problems and have no idea how to overcome them! This is the time when creative imagination is needed and the best thing you can do to call upon it is stay focussed on the goal at hand. Remind yourself what you are doing and focus upon the desired outcome, not the problem that may face you.

If you ask the question, the universe will always respond. You just need be in a receiving mode. You cannot receive the answers if you are feeling miserable about coming to a dead end or upset because you’ve hit temporary failure. But you can receive the divine inspiration if you are in harmony with your goals and hold a positive outlook.

Napoleon makes a crucial point in the chapter on Imagination and states:

Detailed instructions for the building of plans have been given in almost every chapter. Carry out the instructions best suited to your needs, reduce your plan to writing, if you have not already done so. The moment you complete this, you will have DEFINITELY given concrete form to the intangible DESIRE. Read the preceding sentence once more. Read it aloud, very slowly, and as you do so, remember that the moment you reduce the statement of your desire, and a plan for its realization, to writing, you have actually TAKEN THE FIRST of a series of steps, which will enable you to convert the thought into its physical counterpart.

Specialized Knowledge Will Find You When You Need It Most

Whether you know someone who has specialized knowledge in your subject or not, you will inevitably attract the right person into your life if you can focus on the enjoyment of your desire for just a little while.

The universe has all sorts of magnificent ways of making your dreams manifest. Often the universe will find ways that you couldn’t even imagine and still yield to you what you’ve been wanting.

About a year ago, I met one of my spiritual mentors in ways which truly astounded and surprised me. Ever since I read Think and Grow Rich I have been interested in the Law of Attraction and acquiring more specialized knowledge in that area of my life.

It didn’t take the universe long to respond to my requests! At that time in my life I was feeling fed up and frustrated due to lack of results and the dominant vibration that I emitted was that I wanted a mentor or coach to guide me through the process.

One day, I received an email from a popular ezine that I receive regularly. I opened it up and skimmed the message. Although I cannot remember what the email was about, I remember that it didn’t interest me an awful lot so I decided to click on one of the links to other articles to see if I could find something more pleasing.

After a few moments of clicking and skimming this website - I had found myself on the “Links” page. I was intrigued by one of the sites listed on that page, so I clicked on one of the links and then I shut down all of my other browser windows that I had open. I was about to leave the computer and go and do something else as I hadn’t found anything to keep my attention except for this one link that I had clicked on.

Before I left, I skimmed the page and the headline said something like: “Do you crave real freedom and desire change?”. Well yes, I did crave “real freedom” and I definitely wanted to change so I signed up. I had signed up for an MP3 audio download that promised real change. The cost was just $1, so it was a no-brainer. At the time I was of the opinion that the best information available on the Internet was free or very cheap. I had been able to read Think and Grow Rich as a free ebook which totally blew my mind! So this $1 audio program sounded very interesting to me.

After listening to the audio, I was immediately intrigued by the knowledge that was presented as it was in harmony with what I had learnt from Napoleon Hill’s book. I decided to investigate further and discovered that the community which this audio belonged to had two mentors running the site. This membership was an interactive membership website where like minded individuals can get together and share their experiences with one another whilst being guided by the two owners (the mentors!).

I was excited as I thought I had found the training I so desperately craved for.

The universe had additional resources lined up for me though ………

After going on my first live meeting with this community, I emailed one of the resident mentors about the “buddy system” which was discussed as part of some of the training. I was later given the contact details of a fellow English man. I had no problem with this and was intrigued to learn more about everyone in this community. Little did I know, but I had just made my first encounter with my soon-to-be spiritual mentor.

After a couple of chats with my new “buddy”, we discovered that we both had unique talents that we could offer one another.

I consider myself to be very technically minded and have always enjoyed using the computer and using technology. My newly met friend had a vast knowledge of the Law of Attraction and had just finished writing his own book on the subject! However, he lacked computer knowledge and needed help getting a website up and running and also getting his book converted into an ebook and MP3 audio book.

We immediately bonded and forged a relationship where I could provide computer support whilst he could help me with the Law of Attraction. A perfect, win-win situation for the both of us.

The Law of Attraction had yielded to me a long string of circumstances that led up to this moment. We both had separate needs (desires) and the universe responded to both of them by putting us together.

Later as our relationship developed I discovered that my spiritual mentor had emailed one of the resident mentors at the same time as I had done and requested my contact details as he had heard me speak on my first live conference and had an instinctive impulse to connect with me!

The point of me telling you this story is to demonstrate that specialized knowledge can come in many forms and in many different ways.

I did want to find a coach, someone with the specialized knowledge that I didn’t have. And within a few weeks of my asking, the universe had already yielded a community of like minded individuals with two resident mentors but also my own personal mentor to guide me.

If you don’t know where to begin when finding your specialized knowledge, take your attention away from the situation and start to focus upon the feelings of your desire as already here. The universe has heard your request and will always bring to you exactly what you desire, you just need to let it in.

How to Stop Negative Thoughts

This morning I received an inspirational message from Rhonda Byrne, creator of the smash hit documentary, “The Secret”. I think the message is so simple, yet so incredibly powerful! As a deliberate creator, I have often caught myself saying…

• How do I stop negative thoughts?
• I want to stop thinking negative thoughts!
• I know these negative thoughts are attracting more of what I don’t want

In those very moments I am attracting more of what I don’t want towards me. By focussing upon what you do want, an abundance of it will soon flood into your life!

“How do I stop my negative thoughts?” - is a question that I have been asked many times. If you have ever asked this question then you will feel such enormous relief in knowing the answer, because it is so simple. How do you stop negative thoughts? You plant good thoughts!

When you try to stop negative thoughts, you are focusing on what you don’t want - negative thoughts - and you will attract an abundance of them. They can never disappear if you are focused on them. The “stop” part is irrelevant - the negative thoughts are your focus. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to stop negative thoughts or control them or push them away, the result is the same. Your focus is on negative thoughts, and by the law of attraction you are inviting more of them to you.

The truth is always simple and it is always easy. To stop negative thoughts, just plant good thoughts! Deliberately plant good thoughts! You plant good thoughts by making it a daily practice to appreciate all the things in your day. Appreciate your health, your car, your home, your family, your job, your friends, your surroundings, your meals, your pets, and the magnificent beauty of the day. Compliment, praise, and give thanks to all things. Every time you say “Thank you” it is a good thought! As you plant more and more good thoughts, the negative thoughts will be wiped out. Why? Because your focus is on good thoughts, and what you focus on you attract.

So don’t give any attention to negative thoughts. Don’t worry about them. If any come, make light of them, shrug them off, and let them be your reminder to deliberately think more good thoughts now.

The more good thoughts you can plant in a day, the faster your life will be utterly transformed into all good. If you spend only one day speaking of good things and saying “Thank you” at every single opportunity, you will not believe your tomorrow. Deliberately thinking good thoughts is exactly like planting seeds. As you think good thoughts you are planting good seeds inside you, and the Universe will transform those seeds into a garden of paradise. How will the garden of paradise appear? As your life!

Continuous Pursuit of Knowledge

The accumulation of great fortunes calls for POWER, and power is acquired through highly organized and intelligently directed specialized knowledge, but that knowledge does not, necessarily, have to be in the possession of the man who accumulates the fortune.

Napoleon lays out 5 clear definite ways of acquiring specialized knowledge and throughout this chapter he tells of many stories where specialized knowledge was essential in the acquiring of great fortunes.

Read the quote above once more and really understand the message. Regardless of your background and education you can put together a team who has all of the knowledge you would ever need to acquire riches. Personally, I feel the major factor that stops people from moving forward with their ideas is a lack of self confidence and belief that they can do it.

It is very easy to find excuses as to why you cannot do something, and yet, it is also just as easy to start working towards the goal in hand.

It Pays to Know How to Purchase Knowledge

First of all, decide the sort of specialized knowledge you require, and the purpose for which it is needed. To a large extent your major purpose in life, the goal toward which you are working, will help determine what knowledge you need.

With this question settled, your next move requires that you have accurate information concerning dependable sources of knowledge. The more important of these are:

(a) One’s own experience and education
(b) Experience and education available through cooperation of others (Master Mind Alliance)
(c) Colleges and Universities
(d) Public Libraries (Through books and periodicals in which may be found all the knowledge organized by civilization)
(e) Special Training Courses (Through night schools and home study schools in particular.)

As knowledge is acquired it must be organized and put into use, for a definite purpose, through practical plans. Knowledge has no value except that which can be gained from its application toward some worthy end. This is one reason why college degrees are not valued more highly. They represent nothing but miscellaneous knowledge.

The list above is perfect if you intend on developing your own knowledge on the subject, however what should you do if you have no interest in acquiring the knowledge needed? In my last post I spoke about consulting your master mind group to help assist you with acquiring the specialized knowledge. Hopefully you’ve got someone in your master mind group who already has the knowledge you need.

I believe that if you are positively focussing on your goal at hand then the Law of Attraction will bring to you the people needed to help you in working towards your desires. However, to show the universe you are serious about acquiring a master mind group here are some social networking suggestions to help get you started:

Online forums (If you go to Google.com and type in: “keyword +forum” without the quotations and change “keyword” with a keyword that represents your niche you will be presented with a list of online forums available to participate in and join)

Can The Uneducated Get Rich?

The common thoughts amongst today’s youth is that in order to be rich and wealthy you must work hard and have specialized knowledge. Those who really buy into this belief attend universities and colleges and study towards a specific subject living with the hope that their new found knowledge will support them for life by providing jobs for them.

In my opinion, this is the worst way to make money. Nothing could be more boring, uninteresting and flawed than this way of thinking.

• Thomas A. Edison had only three months of formal education
• Henry Ford had less than a sixth grade schooling
• Gary Evans left college after his first year and went on to setup successful online businesses

The truth is, you do not require specialized knowledge in order to attain riches. There will always be others who have the passion and drive to learn as much as they can about certain subjects. You can call upon these individuals to answer any questions you may need answering.

Knowledge is power

Knowledge is only potential power, consider your school teachers and professors for a moment. They often consider themselves underpaid and overworked and yet they hold specialized knowledge. This is true for most people who hold specialized knowledge in any given field. They feel overworked and underpaid.

Do not miss-understand me here, specialized knowledge is essential for any accumulation of riches. Napoleon Hill recommends that if you don’t have the interest and desire to learn such specialized knowledge that will be required to create riches then you should consult your master mind group to help assist you with this process. We’ll speak more on master mind groups in a subsequent chapter.

Before you can be sure of your ability to transmute DESIRE into its monetary equivalent, you will require SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE of the service, merchandise, or profession which you intend to offer in return for fortune. Perhaps you may need much more specialized knowledge than you have the ability or the inclination to acquire, and if this should be true, you may bridge your weakness through the aid of your Master Mind Group.
